Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 248

MANUSCRIPT: AC. Penciled rough draft.

PUBLICATION: Home 430-431.

The alternative suggested changes are placed in parentheses; words crossed out, in brackets. Like the earlier "Master" letters (no 187 and 233) this draft was among ED's papers at the time of her death. Whether a fair copy was made and sent, or intended to be sent, is now known. Accurate dating is impossible. The letter may have been written earlier, but the characteristics of the handwriting make the present assignment reasonable.
