letters from dickinson to unknown recipients

Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 965

MANUSCRIPT: AC. Pencil.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 423; Bachelor of Arts, May 1895; L (1931) 411-412.

The provenance of this letter is uncertain. Mrs. Todd had access to it in 1894. Perhaps it was among ED's papers, for though Mrs. Todd published it with other letters in 1894, she named no recipient. It is a complete fair copy, the paper and the writing identical with those of the preceding letter. It seems to have been intended for the same person, since the preceding anticipates the promise of a book, and this thanks the donor. A small prose fragment (AC - pencil) is a variant of the last sentence:

Peter took the Marine walk at a great risk - I think I am correct but the Apostles misgive me -
