letters from dickinson to kate anthon

Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 208

MANUSCRIPT: missing. The text is from a transcript (HCL) made by Mrs. Anthon.

PUBLICATION: L (1931) 146; Poems 159.

The transcript bears the notation: "Emily knitted a pair of garters for me & sent them over with these lines." Kate Turner visited Susan Dickinson some four or five times during the years 1859-1861. Any date for this note and for the letter following (no. 209) is conjectural, but the tonesuggests that they were writte near the beginning of hte friendship.
