Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 39

MANUSCRIPT: missing. See note 3 in "Notes on the Present Text." All of the letter above the signature has been published. The final two paragraphs below the signature (which directly follow the paragraph which precedes them) were published in Letters (1931) 49-50, and by mistake separated from the rest of the letter. The first paragraph below the signature is unpublished.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 50-53; L (1931) 44-46, dated (presumably by ED): Tuseday [sic] Evening. It is said to have been postmarked 2 January. The letter seems to have been written on 31 December 1850.

Leonard Humphrey died, 14 November 1850, at his home in North Weymouth. Abby Wood had been greatly affected during the religious revival of the previous summer, and joined the church in August.
