Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 50

MANUSCRIPT: HCL (ARS 9). Ink, Dated: Tuesday Evening.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 53-57, in part; L (1931) 46-50, in part.

ED had seen Abiah unexpectedly during commencement activities on 12 August. Next morning Henry Ward Beecher delivered an address on "Imagination." Graduation was held on Thursday. Probably this letter was written the following Tuesday. The first quotation recalls John 16.16; the second, Matthew 6.19; the third, I Corinthians 1.26. The last, from John 17.24, is also quoted in letter 785.
