Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 109

MANUSCRIPT: AC. Pencil. Dated: Thursday morning. Postmarked: Mar. 24. An attempt has been made throughout to erase Sue's name.

PUBLICATION: Home 269-270.

According to a carefully contrived plan between Austin and Sue, the latter returned from Manchester by way of Boston. The correspondence that follows indicates that they became engaged at this time. Sue arrived in Amherst on March 24. Lavinia's hand had recovered sufficiently for her to write a note to Austin that was enclosed with Emily's.
