Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 130

MANUSCRIPT: AC. Pencil. Dated: Friday afternoon. Envelope franked and addressed by Edward Dickinson. Postmarked: Amherst Ms Jul 2.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 116-117, in part; L (1931) 115-116, in part; Home 303-304, entire.

The grandmother visiting the Dickinsons was Sarah Vaill Norcross, Mrs. Dickinson's stepmother. The comment on last letters implies criticism of Seth Nims, the postmaster (see letter no. 16). The poems that ED admires are those of Alexander Smith (see letter no. 128).
