For Mrs. Mack, see Appendix 2. Jane B. Grout died, 27 October 1851, aged 19. A poem, "The Life Clock," translated from the German, was published in the Hampshire Gazette (4 August 1846) and in the Northampton Courier (14 July 1847). The first stanza reads:

There is a little mystic clock,
No human eye hath seen,
That beateth on and beateth on
From morning until e'en.
