Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 90

MANUSCRIPT: AC. Pencil. Dated: Thursday night. Addressed on the fold: Austin. An attempts [sic] has been made at some time to erase the words "Sue and" in the third paragraph.

A draft of a letter from Austin to Martha Gilbert, dated 11 May 1852, is in Home 240-242. Lady Georgiana Fullerton's novel Ellen Middleton, which attracted W.E. Gladstone's attention when it first appeared in the English Review, was published in an American edition in 1849.
