letters from dickinson to emily fowler ford

Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 146

MANUSCRIPT: missing.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 145-146; L (1931) 143-144, dated (presumably by ED): Wednesday Eve.

Emily Fowler married Gordon L. Ford, 16 December 1853. The stanza quoted is from the Barbauld hymn beginning "How blest the righteous when he dies," but it is evidently quoted from memory, since the second word of the second line actually is sinks.
