Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 898

MANUSCRIPT: missing

PUBLICATION: FF 58, in part; Poems (1955) 1112.

The text is from a transcript supplied the editor by French's daughter, Mrs. William Penn Cresson. The John Harvard statue was unveiled in the Harvard Yard in April 1884. ED probably did not know him well, though he had lived as a boy in Amherst; but Susan Dickinson did, and he was a friend of the Norcross cousins.
