letters from dickinson to harriet dickinson

To Harriet Austin Dickinson
From ED

mid-August 1883

Dear friend,

I want to thank you for the tenderness to Vinnie, who has been Soldier and Angel too since our Parents died, and only carries a "drawn Sword" in behalf of Eden - the "Cherubim" her criterion.

I am glad that you have your Mother with you - forgive a pang of covetousness that I have not my own - a sacred place for envy - and you have, I believe, one Sister the most, bereaving me again. Mother - Brother - Sister! "What a Triumvirate"!

But Yesterday, and those three Wealths were actually mine! With sorrowing gluttony I look away from your's. Thanking you again for the affection for Vinnie,

Her Sister -
