letters from dickinson to higginson

Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 381

MANUSCRIPT: BPL (Higg 67). Ink.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 316‹317; LL 277; L (1931) 290.

Higginson sailed for Europe in late April, I872, and returned early in July. His name appeared frequently in the Springfield Republican during that time. His penciled date on the letter "l871?" was obviously added later. ED enclosed three poems: "To disappear enhances," "He preached upon Breadth," and "The Sea said 'Come' to the Brook."
