letters from dickinson to higginson

Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 519

MANUSCRIPT: BPL (Higg 86). Ink.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 326, in part; LL 305, in part; L (1931) 308, entire.

Higginson had replied to the query in ED's last letter to him, evidently enclosing an obituary notice, perhaps from the Boston Evening Traveller for 6 September, since a copy of the notice is in his notebook of 1877.

ED associated Thermopylae with uncomplaining bravery in the face of certain death (see letter no. 906). See also Prose Fragment 35.
