letters from dickinson to higginson

March 1880

I was sorry for what the Paper told me- I hoped it was not true-

The Face in evanescence lain
Is more distinct than our's-
And our's surrendered for it's sake
As Capsules are for Flower's-
Or is it the confiding sheen
Dissenting to be won
Descending to enamor us
Of Detriment divine?
