letters from dickinson to the jenkins family

Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 497

MANUSCRIPT: missing. The text is from an unpublished letter (HCL) written by MacGregor Jenkins to Martha Dickinson Bianchi in 1930. It follows the transcript verbatim except for a semicolon which Jenkins placed after the salutation - a form of punctuation which ED never so used.

Any date is conjectural, but clearly the note was written after the acquaintance with the children had been warmly established. In 1877 MacGregor was eight and his sister about eleven.
