Fanny Norcross was in Amherst for commencement, 15 July. ED has received a visit from Clara and Anna Newman, who made their home at this time with Austin and Susan Dickinson. Vinnie frequently visited Eliza and John Dudley at Middletown, Connecticut, Melvin B. Copeland, a Middletown businessman, was a friend of Vinnie's. On Mrs. Bangs, see the note in letter no. 287.
