letters from dickinson to otis phillips lord

November 1882?

The celestial Vacation of writing you after an interminable Term of four Days, I can scarcely express. My Head was so sick when I woke this Morning that I feared I could'nt meet Tom, though how did I know that the dear necessity at that particular moment existed? And more afraid, that should it, I could'nt repond tonight, and a Night is so long, and it snowing too, another barrier to Hearts that overleap themselves. Emily "Jumbo"! Sweetest name, but I know a sweeter - Emily Jumbo Lord. Have I your approval?

Tim's suspicions however will be allayed, for I have thinner Paper, which can elude the very elect, if it undertake.
