Thomas Johnson's Note on Poem 1521

MANUSCRIPT: About 1881 (Squires). The verses conclude a brief note addressed "Sallie and Mattie -" and was sent to Mattie Dickinson and Sally Jenkins on some occasion either when Mattie was visiting Sally in Pittsfield or Sally was visiting Mattie in Amherst.

PUBLICATION: Letters (ed. 1894), 370; (ed. 1931), 361; also LL (1924), 280. The text is arranged as a single quatrain. Two words are altered:
