PUBLICATION: L (1894) 227; LL 331; L (1931) 212, where it is dated "Tuesday."

The phenomenon which ED records, known as "yellow day," occurred on Tuesday, 6 September 1881. The allusion to the sparrow recalls one of Hamlet's final remarks (Hamlet, V, ii, 229-233): "...there's a special providence in the fall of a sparrow... The readiness is all...."
