Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 604

MANUSCRIPT: HCL (B 45). Pencil.

PUBLICATION: FF 251; Poems (1955) 1008.

Mrs. Bianchi's note in FF says the lines were sent after Ned's horses Dick and Jim had run away with him. The verses, however, would seem more appropriate to an occasion when Ned inadvertantly found himself in a funeral procession from which he could not extricate himself by whipping up the horses.
