Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 285

MANUSCRIPT: destroyed.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 248-249; LL 250-251; L (1931) 232, dated (presumably by ED): Wednesday.

The Cattle Show in 1863 took place on 8-9 October, but the sisters did not stay for it. ED may mean by "the South Sea rose" that she is reading Melville's Typee.
