Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 656

MANUSCRIPT: destroyed.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 292; L (1931) 264-265.

Louise Norcross had visited in Amherst in mid-August, at the same time Martha Smith was there. On 1 September the Amherst Record notes: "Quite a large gathering of the descendants of the late Samuel F. Dickinson, including sisters and families, cousins and friends of the late Hon. Edward Dickinson, have been for more than week guests of our new 'Amherst House' . . . Judge Lord of Salem, with a party have been guests at the hotel for several days." "The Essex visit" refers to the Lord group; Salem is the county seat of Essex County.
