Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 710

MANUSCRIPT: destroyed.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 286-287; LL 327; L (1931) 260.

ED poignantly felt the death of George Eliot (see letter no. 688). Because the last sentence is identical with the one in a letter to Dr. Holland, written in the summer of 1881 (no. 715), one conjectures that the letters were written about the same time.
