letters from dickinson to olive stearns

1878?

Dear friends,

The seraphic shame generosity causes is perhaps its most heavenly result.

To make even Heaven more heavenly, is within the aim of us all.

I was much touched by the little fence dividing the devotions, though devotion should always wear a fence, to preempt its claim.

Why the full heart is speechless, is one of the great wherefores.

Emily, with love.
