MANUSCRIPT: Bowles. Pencil. The signature is clipped away. Enveloped addressed by ED in ink: Samuel Bowles/Springfield/Mass. Postmarked: Palmer Aug 91 1885 [the reversal of figures in the date make it conjecturally Aug 19, the probably date, since the following letter was mailed the next day].
