Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 895

MANUSCRIPT: AC. Pencil.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 389-390; LL 320; L (1931) 379.

Mrs. Tuckerman dated the letter, 1 April 1884, but the occasion for which it was written has not been identified. The quotation recalls John 11.21: "Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died."
