Later I taught film criticism, among other things. The name of Jay Leyda was (and is) an important one, particularly with respect to Russian film. I was surprised to learn, when I began to deepen my interest in ED, that Leyda had written about her and about Melville. Is it the same Leyda? If so, does anybody know his story, particularly with respect to his rather remarkable scope--from Eisenstein to ED? Sorry, I haven't done my homework by reading _The Years and Hours of Emily Dickinson_. I'm still plugging away. It's a sunny day in Santa Fe. Matter of fact El Nino has caused slippage in our usual winter scene, which is O.K. by me. Louis Forsdale
