I think Kris has got it right for the first four stanzas. Friends, probably lovers, are separated, and the speaker relates eloquently the details which express how much she misses him.. I also think stanza five is fairly straightforward too, although Kris has concern about the meaning of "noon." I think the speaker is saying that noon is a joyful time to him, why can't I be his noon (a joyful time) too? Things get more complicated in the final verse. The speaker says, in essence, "but hold on a bit. I may be rushing into something. So stop my blossom, abolish my bee." ED knew her biology: bees and blossoms = pollination= sex. And if the bees and the blossoms got together and did what they do, the imagined delightful noon might turn into everlasting night, with Gabriel (chief of angelic guards, according to Webster), dropping from heaven and taking me into a terrible eternal night (some kind of awfully dark fate). I'm no expert with the Bible, however and there are doubtless better interpreations out there anyway. Happy Memorial Day. Louis --part0_895945432_boundary--
