Dear Josephine -

Just a word. 90 kilometres
yesterday in our little auto[?]. over
the "Carniche d'or" (Americanized
Gilt-edged) From Nice to San
Raphael - Road built a la
swallow's nest, but in rock - no
barricade as yet - too narrow to
pass - steep as goodness - and
winding like a snake! Up- up -
up!!! and below hungry furious
waters lashed by a North wind -
waters that reach up like
starving beasts! That jump toward
you as if you were prey - then
through pine forests watching
the fury thro' screens of aromatic
branches - there to craggy mountains
rising to the stormy sky - a bare
yellow crag with a bandit cactus
