  Our first invitation after settling in our own home was the occasion of the
Supreme Court reception at the Hopkins mansion at Northhampton. Something occured
to prevent our accepting it but I always remembered it warmly as an expression of
the hospitality so well understood as characteristic of that interesting historic
home. I cannot forgive any modern thrift that has destwrbed [sic] such such [sic] long known
and beloved
