Aug. 20 [Munchen?] Down-pour -
must wait for Pontresina - court-
yard full of storm clad picturesque
folk and carriages coming & going - M &
Capt. B. content - E. desperate for an inten-
sity of some sort - Dinner last night on
porch - no light but full moon and
Saturn-Moon slowly rose and silvered
the gigantic outlines of the Alps - "On
her part what transaction, on their
part what repose"! tho't yesterday
from Thusis unspeakable - glorious day -
and the Alps overwhelming in beauty &
grandeur - Excitement intense, every moment
whither "I forg[?], or fail" they stand for
God & Eternity - outposts of immortality -
Zurich Sat. last from Paris - The morning -
a revelation of scrolling clouds &
