My dear Mr Ward

I am very sorry
you have been annoyed
in any way over an
apparent "conflict of
possession" in the little
matter of Emily's verses -
I sent them to you in
great innocency of motive
and as they are mine.
Many of them yellow and

faded with time - (Many too personal and
adulatory ever to be printed) and as mine
I shall make such use as I choose of them.
When I have a little leisure I will send
you a few more - meanwhile may I
remind you to return the mss. of Emily's
I sent you -

     Yours cordially
          S. H. Dickinson

It just seems to me that you may not
care to print more after this sort of injunction of
Miss Dickinson's -
