Correspondence with Susan Dickinson Most of Dickinson's readers know her letters and poems through Thomas Johnson's editions. Thus, while the editors for Emily Dickinson's Correspondences are developing markup and annotations, such as the corespondence with Susan Dickinson (see above), we additionally offer Johnson's representations, which artificially divide poems from letters and letters from poems, in order to analyze and amend his editorial procedure. This will also enable us to examine the transmission of knowledge about this poet's praxes, and, not least of all, the problem of dating her many texts. As we work through each correspondence, Johnson's representations will disappear, but our notes will indicate his #s, as well as our reasons for amending his representations.
