Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 800

MANUSCRIPT: AC. Penciled rough draft, written on reverse of letter no. 780.

PUBLICATION: NEQ XXVIII (1955) 302.

This surviving part of the draft of a letter was probably written to Mrs. Dickinson's younger brother Alfred, whose first grandchild, a girl, was born in December 1882. The first grandchild of Joel Norcross, another brother, was a boy, born in December 1883. The reference to "little Grand Boy" obviously would apply better to Joel, but the tone of the letter suggests that it was written while the memory of Mrs. Dickinson's death and her funeral were still fresh.
