The Hampshire and Franklin Express, 10 September 1852, reported that Edward Dickinson "had the honor to represent the old Sixth District in the National nominating Convention. To that convention he carried a firm and unwavering friendship to Daniel Webster, which led him to stand by a great statesman through the fifty-five ballots of that body."
