Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 249

MANUSCRIPT: Hooker. Ink. Outside edges torn away. Unpublished except for poem, which is in Poems (1955), 162, and there dated 1861. There can be no exact date assigned. Here the letter is moved somewhat ahead, since the letter seems to be part of a sequence that ED wrote Bowles between January and early April, when he sailed for Europe.
