No autograph copy of this poem is known. It is incorporated in a letter to Samuel Bowles, and the "her" is probably summer. PUBLICATION: Letters (ed. 1894), 192; (ed. 1931), 183; also LL (1924), 203, printed as prose. Mrs. Todd conjecturally dates it late August, 1858.
