letters from dickinson to emily fowler ford

Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 99

MANUSCRIPT: NYPL. Pencil. Addressed on the outer fold: Emilie.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 133; L (1931) 132-133.

ED was wearing her hair short at the time. In the late summer of 1852 Lavinia wrote to Austin: "Emilie's hair is cut of & shes very pretty." (Home 248). Mrs. Ford's collection of her friends' hair is in NYPL, but ED's ringlet is missing.
