Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 175

MANUSCRIPT: missing.

PUBLICATION: L (1894) 160-162; L (1931) 157-159; LH 37-38, dated (presumably by ED): Sabbath Afternoon.

The letter is placed here because the phrasing of the reference to weather exactly parallels that in the letter which follows, written to Susan Gilbert on November 27; and because the conclusion echoes lines from the poem sent to Susan in September (letter no. 173).
