Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 354

MANUSCRIPT: HCL (H 24). Ink.

PUBLICATION: LH 84-86.

The Hollands had returned to Springfield in the spring of 1870, and visited in Amherst during the summer. A new enterprise kept Dr. Holland much in New York during October, when the first issue of the magazine he edited, Scribner's Monthly, was being prepared for the press. In the person of Bismark, ED alludes to the principal news of the day, the Franco-Prussian war.
