Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 721

MANUSCRIPT: HCL (H 61). Pencil.

President Garfield, shot on 2 July, lingered through the summer and died, 19 September. On Howell's A Fearful Responsibility, which ED was finding not to her taste, see letter no. 714.
