The expression "remainder biscuit" is from As You Like It (see letter no. 545). Salvini's performance of Othello Austin probably saw in the winter of 1873-1874, before the death of Salvini's wife, "his Idol," in 1878, but his diary only records the performance he say 11 April 1883.
