letters from dickinson to elizabeth holland

To Mrs. J.G. Holland
From ED

early March 1885

Dear Sister,

So Madonna and Daughter were incomplete, and Madonna and Son, must supersede!

Perhaps the Picture is right - But is'nt it rather cool Weather for the Wise Men of the East?

Perhaps their Shining Overcoats obviate the Climate -

The young Man is doubtless an acquisition, but I uphold Katrina, and any encroachment upon her, shall resent to the last -

Congratulate the New Moon on her second Star, and with love for each, and a "Dont wake the Baby," we are heartfeltly

          Emily.

Rejoice that you are better.

One more word for Baby -

I send him Daniel Webster's Hat for his Golden Wedding. It can be found in the "Century" -

March Number, I think.

Be sure and try it on -
