letters from dickinson to samuel bowles (the younger)

Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 864

MANUSCRIPT: Bowles. Pencil.

PUBLICATION: L (1931) 338.

ED sent this on learning of the engagement of Bowles to Miss Elizabeth Hoar. He forwarded it to his faincee with this endorsement on the back fold: "This is from the friend whom I have never seen. It has just come. Please keep it for me again." The scripture quotation attempts to recall Revelation 21.21.
