MANUSCRIPT: About 1883, in a letter (Esty) to Mrs. Edward Tuckerman. The lines border between prose and verse, and conclude a short note that begins: "Sweet Foot, that comes when we call it! I can go but a Step a Century, now -."

PUBLICATION: Letters (ed. 1894), 388; (ed. 1931), 378. Here the lines are treated as prose and the letter is dated June 1883.
