JL 73

about 6 February 1852

ink, one sheet, four pages

watermark/embossment: N, no symbol

20 x 12.5 cm.

multiply folded

FF 182-184, in part. Faint lines across text. "S's" in "confess" in third paragraph are calligraphically animated, and appear to be walking tall and winking; "g's" in "ugly things" dramatically underline letters preceding them (see Rowing in Eden 24, 163, 166, 168, 171-172). Johnson omits the article "a" before "a broken back." He reasonably dates this letter according to the comment on Mattie's condition and confluences with a contemporaneous letter to Austin (L 72).
