letters from dickinson to elizabeth holland

Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 525

MANUSCRIPT: HCL (H 44). Ink.

PUBLICATION: LH 118-119.

Mrs. Holland's eyesight was seriously impaired after her operation in 1872 (see letter no. 377), and many letters from ED allude to it in this manner. Vinnie's illness may also be inferred from letter no. 483. Mrs. Otis P. Lord died on 10 December. The letter enclosed from Dr. Holland to address and forward to Philadelphia was presumably intended for Charles Wadsworth.
