letters from dickinson to elizabeth holland

Thomas Johnson's Note on Letter 740

MANUSCRIPT: missing.

PUBLICATION: Mrs. Todd first published this letter, probably following a transcript furnished by Mrs. Holland, in the Kappa Alpha Theta, VI, no. 3 (April 1892), 117-118. When she included it in L (1894) 185-186, and L (1931) 178, she regularized punctuation, capitals, and paragraphs, restoring the last thirteen words of the first sentence, omitted in the 1892 publication. The present text follows that of 1892, but retains the first sentence entire. (The text in LH 155 derives from L 1931.)

This letter ackowledges Mrs. Holland's account of Annie's marriage, 7 December 1881, to John Howe (see letter no. 723).
