lines across last five paragraphs. Over paragraph beginning "To get you all once
more," Sue has pencilled "Shyness." Handwriting is noticeably shakier, and an ink blot appears
over the word "beat" in the seventh paragraph. Johnson omits the clause "I flew - " from the
second sentence. He provides important information to contextualize the references: Sue is once
again visiting friends in Manchester, New Hampshire; Professor Aaron Warner had resigned
because the trustees did not give him the opportunity to rebut criticisms of his work; and Austin
was due home almost immediately.
